Communaute Alimentaire de Lachine

ABOUT

In Quebec, “Club des Personnes Handicapées du lac Saint-Louis” (CPHDLSL) is considered essential in the Lachine constituency, whose principle goal is to reduce isolation for people living with disabilities. The work of the CPHDLSL fundamentally shapes the local food security, accessibility, health, transformation, distribution and food politics (amongst others). The Club is instrumental in ensuring food security to Lachine’s vulnerable and precarious population, who often rely on social assistance.

A hallmark of CPHDLDSL policy is to instruct its members in nutritional and healthy cooking dynamics. In this pursuit, the Club offers an accessible communal kitchen, where people learn via hands-on experience safe-food practices, pertaining to health, safety, creative, and tasty meals. Afterward, cooked meals are equally redistributed to participatory club members either for immediate consumption or to take home. The Club also features visiting instructors, who share their expertise on sustainability and self-sufficiency.
