Communaute Alimentaire de Lachine

ABOUT

The COVIQ is an Autonomous Community Action Organization, founded in May 2000 by residents and community organizers to work on various issues in the Lachine Duff-Court neighbourhood. In the last twenty years the organization has developed activities and services for early childhood, youth and families. They are now focusing on developing a construction site in urban agriculture as a part of the local food system. The COVIQ has a strong partnership with most local organizations such as, the Lachine Community Social Pediatrics Centre and CUMULUS. It also has partnerships with OMHM and the Lachine borough for its premises.

COVIQ is currently developing a construction site in urban agriculture as part of the local food system. The steps of their food production, processing, distribution, consumption, and disposal are all done within the same block, making it one step closer to sustainability. The COVIQ group currently has a community garden/farm that provides fresh, healthy local produce for the community at a local market weekly. This organization provides an alternative food initiative.
