Communaute Alimentaire de Lachine

ABOUT

L’Oeuvre Soupe Maison is a charitable soup kitchen that offers free meals to the homeless and disadvantaged population living in Lachine. Founded in 1985, L’Oeuvre Soupe Maison began as a small group of volunteers in the basement of a church giving out soup and sandwiches during lunch time. Now, with the help of donors, Moisson Montreal food bank and caring volunteers, the organization feeds upwards of 85 people every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday (Monnet, 2020).

At the end of each month, they prepare food baskets with fresh fruits and prepared foods and give them out to members. The primary intention of the organization is to offer access to healthy meals while allowing the opportunity to meet people and keep a social link for the people in Lachine. Directors at the organization have hopes of growing and becoming more impactful for the Lachine community. Through building partnerships with other charities helping those in need, the homeless in the community can eventually find the support that they need to become independent.
